KNITTING NATION PHASE 2: Atelier took place at Felissimo Design House. The format of the performance was a six-day residency executed by a rotating trio of knitters with Liz Collins during New York City’s 2006 Fashion Week. Operating in a functioning atelier and sales room, the knitters made multiples of sweaters that went directly onto garment racks for direct sale. During the closing reception, for the duration of the performance, the knitters created a sculptural installation of knitted ropes from reflective material. The ropes hung from the ceiling straight from the knitting machines thereby drawing the knitter to the architectural space: a reflective drawing. By the end of the performance, a tall, intestine-like sculpture accumulated from the rope-production. This iteration experimented with process, marketing, and directional knitting through collective activity.
