In the early 2000s it occurred to me that I could knit a sweater that referenced a sock monkey, an object I have loved for years. These toys were originally made from the first industrially knit socks; their history is bound up with the development of the textile industry in America.
I created a line of garments that evoked sock monkeys, and also used them directly in the collection as accessories. I then went on to make a full body suit, that allows the wearer to actually become a sock monkey.
