Retail Intervention

In this project Liz Collins takes her knowledge in fashion and apparel design and combines it with her performance and textiles skills to create a piece that uses the retail environment of a Barneys store and transforms it into a stage while alluding to the factory setting. Customers arrived at the store, purchased a garment from the Barneys inventory of designer t-shirts by the Row, Jil Sander, Alexander Wang and other high end designers. Collins then hacked and transformed the shirts with scissors and her knitting machine, adding knit inserts and embellishments to the garments. The work was a 3-way designer collaboration between the customer, the original shirt designer ( the non-consensual party) and Collins.
